Finally we are ready to release Snabiz 1.0.1 - our bugfix release - which is compatible with iPhone OS 3.x

Snabiz - the first and only OCR application on the iPhone which OCR's without sending any data over the network - is ready for usage on iPhone OS 3.x.

The results are astonishing: with the new iPhone 3GS, business card scanning reaches an accuracy of 95% with our Tesseract library. As mentioned in our userguide, you need a special case in order to get decent results with the iPhone 3G but this is no longer required when you use Snabiz with the 3GS.

So cross your fingers and hope Apple releases Snabiz 1.0.1 quickly!

Taking sharp and bright pictures is essential for a good OCR result. That's why we list some tips in order to improve your picture-taking skills.

• Make sure the businesscard shows up as a straight rectangle (i.e. no trapezium!). If not, the fonts will be stretched and the OCR engine will have difficulties processing it properly.
• Try from different distances - sometimes the iPhone does not produce a sharp picture if the businesscard font is too big or too little
• Make sure the light conditions are fine. When it's too dark, the resulted picture will be blurry

If you are unable to produce good results, mail us a sample businesscard (taken with your iPhone and proper lens) and we'll investigate your issue as we are committed in optimizing your business.

We're pleased to announce that the first OCR (Optical Character Recognition) app for the iPhone, Snabiz is now live in the app store.

It took over 3 months for us to get it submitted (in the meantime we improved graphics and did some more finetuning), but it's finally there. With Snabiz, you can take pictures of anything which contains text, and convert that into new or existing Contacts.

We really hope you enjoy Snabiz as much as we do - we've put a lot of thought and effort into it. Please let us know what you think and give us suggestions for new features.

Please note that if you want to take sharp (and usefull!) pictures of businesscards, you do need a special lens in front as the iPhone is currently not capable of taking sharp pictures with its own lens. We suggest the Clarify from Griffin Technology.

We just submitted a new and more polished version of Snabiz to the App Store, and hope Apple will let us know soon whether it's okay or not. Up till now, we haven't heard a single word from Apple!

Snabiz helps you to import business cards in your Address Book.
Simply take a picture, Snabiz recognizes the text and
automatically tags all known fields.
You are presented with a list of all scanned text fields
so you can tag everything that you want to import.
Then you can save your new contact in your Address Book.
